2009 Australian Open Final Champion Rafael Nadal

Once the forehand of Roger Federer was called out, one part of Rod Laver Arena cheered in joy, while the other sounded subdued. Nadal fell to the ground as if the waterfalls of relief cascaded onto him. He jumped up and jogged to the net where his beaten rival was already at, waiting to shake the hand of his achilles heel.It was, all-in-all, an exciting final. Both players firing winners from every part of the court imaginable. Federer was brilliant, but Nadal was almost a demi-god. Federer didn't lose the match, but rather, Nadal won it from him. At the prize presentation, Roger couldn't take anymore and broke down in tears, his disappointment the cause.
"I love this game ... It means the world to me, so it hurts when you lose. I had many chances. I missed them and they cost me dearly. It was a tough match. I don't think I served particularly well, unfortunately. I think that was the key to the match in the end." - Federer
The swiss had only a 52% first serve, a weapon that was so important in his semi-final match against Roddick. His demise ultimately also came in the form of 64 unforced errors and 6 double faults. 71 winners just weren't enough against Nadal's endurance.
"You are disappointed, shocked and sad then it overwhelms you. You can't go to the locker-room and take a cold shower. You are stuck out there. It is tough." - Federer
After regaining his composure, he addressed the crowd with these words. It was tough seeing my inspiration in tears, but I still support him. Before the final, Nadal has never faced or beaten Roger on a hard court, but now he has done both. With Nadal winning 5 out of 7 of his Grand Slam finals against Roger, the latter has definitely a mental block against Nadal already. I really hope he rises up again someday, and takes the number one spot again.I'll surely be expecting another Federer-Nadal final again in the French Open. Maybe then can the "Fed express" redeem himself.
